About
Lu Clarke is a multidisciplinary artist based in East Anglia and the South West. Their practice explores community and queer culture through painting and installation works, embracing the “otherness” of queer existence and memorialising their lived experience as a young queer artist in a modern climate. Their work allows for a visual confrontation of their own identity, reclaiming agency as a queer individual through symbolism and the act of creation. Through their practice they aim to amplify queer voices and bring queer issues into the forefront of modern socio-political discourse, hoping to spark conversations surrounding political injustice.
They are particularly interested in investigating contemporary queer symbolism through their use of a canary as a mirror of the self, explored through their current project, “Stuck in the Mine“. They seek to foster a sense of community through this, inviting audiences to investigate and learn about queer history and community through connection, incorporating informative elements into their displays.
